THE DREAM I am at my childhood home and looking out of the bedroom window. Its night time and there has been this huge explosion - its as bad as a nuclear explosion - it seems like the end of the world. Its clearly some great catastrophe and I say in shock something like "Oh my God".

GUESSWORK The dreamer had been suffering from extreme pain. She had seen the doctor about it and was told that nothing could be done. She was thinking how miserable her existence would be from now on.

ASSOCIATIONS AND SYMBOLIC MEANINGS
1. END OF THE WORLD: Of course illness is not the end of the world. Life continues on but dreams deal with feelings. So actually the end of the world is an excellent metaphor for chronic illness. It feels like the end of the world. The dreamer cannot do many things that she once took for granted.
2. SHOCK: Dreams are not about the facts of your life. They are more about the feelings. The dream ends with the dreamer standing in astonishment saying "Oh my God!" in shock. Shock then is the meaning of the dream. Of course the dreamer knew about her worsening health but it was just beginning to dawn on her the extent of its impact. She was just beginning to realise the extent of the problems.
