THE DREAM: I was trapped in a room all alone. I was waiting for the all clear. I had not eaten for days.

THE REALITY: Try to make associations with a dream. In this case the dream made him think about being all alone. He had been living in a home for disabled people and had made friends with one person in particular. This friend had just been taken to hospital and it seemed likely that she would move out for good. The dream made him think of his time before when he was living alone and depressed not eating properly for days on end. Trapped in a room then made the dreamer think of the following thought - "I feel like I am all alone again now that my friend has moved out. I will go back to how I used to live."

See how the dream seems totally unrelated to real life but the it captures a key feeling in the here and now. Always look to the here and now when analysing dreams as the dream mind concentrates on current matters. That makes sense as the mind transfers thoughts and feelings from the short term into long term memory. Dreams then are linked to brain processes.
